First I must warn you before you read this post that these are my thoughts and opinions. If you disagree with them that is ok, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Yesterday I took both girls to the orthodontist as I have done every month for over a year. While the girls are being worked on I sit in the front waiting room and watch people come and go. Yesterday I noticed that there was a new magazine on the tables. Seventeen. I thought, hum, wonder what they are telling our young girls today. I will tell you right now that I did look at the entire magazine and was shocked at what I saw. Young girls were asking questions about s*x and there was even an article discussing a girls body. I thought I was going to vomit. Oh, but that wasn’t all. There was an add that stated they were looking for young girls to become models. No biggie right? WRONG! The add had a picture of about 10 or so young women all dressed in the skimpiest clothing you could imagine. Let’s just be honest, most of it looked like undergarments. At this point you are probably asking yourself why I continued to look at the disgusting magazine in the first place. I will tell you. I have two teenage girls who I want to protect from what is out there. When I find something like this I will discuss it with the girls and explain why it is wrong. I use it as a teaching lesson.
Which brings me to the next topic. Dress. Most of you know we prefer to wear skirts. We do not look down on anyone who does not. This is our choice and where we feel the Lord has led us personally. But I have to say young girls wearing pants that barely cover their bottoms and are skin tight are pitiful. Two young ladies came into the office yesterday, both of which had such pretty faces. They were both wearing low cut jeans, baggy oversized shirts and boyish tennis shoes and walked like apes with their arms dragging the ground. One girls mom kept handing her money for various things and she just kept stuffing it in her pockets. Not one girl came into that office looking like a girl. Why? Why can’t they be proud that they are young women. Why do they have to put things out there for the world to see?
We also observed a young man with long hair, goatee, and painted fingernails. That one really confused the girls. I remember a commercial years ago that showed a young boy getting dressed all in black and putting on his jewelry with his loud music playing in the background. He comes downstairs and his mom looks at him and asks him where he is going. Then the announcer says something like, let your kids be who they want to be, just know where they are going. WHAT? Are parents insane? I’m sorry, but I would beat my kids beyond comprehension if they pulled something like that.
We have been studying a book by the Pearables called Personal Help for Girls and I must say that it is a wonderful book. We are really enjoying reading and discussing it together. Outings like yesterday really make you stop and think about what is going on in the world and how parents just sit back and let it happen. Girls being allowed to date at such a young age. They are getting pregnant younger and younger now. Such a sad time we live in.
Our family is far from perfect, but we make sure that we strive to do the Lord’s will and raise our children in a way that is pleasing to him. Again, I want to say that what I have written is strictly my opinion and I hope I did not offend anyone.
