Yesterday I spent most of my day planning for our new school year. I am so proud of myself. I have never planned as much as I did yesterday and I am still not finished. I have to make a trip to the bookstore and pick up a couple more books and do the plans for those as well, but it shouldn’t take me long. I have made a folder for each subject and placed the schedule for the year for that subject in it so that the girls will have no questions as to what they are doing for that day. We are continuing with our 4 day school week since DH is off on Monday’s. That is the day when we usually do field trips though. I am wanting to take the girls to Kingston (this is where we go to the orthodontist) to visit the old courthouse. Even though we are there every month we have never had time to stop. Kingston is famous because it was the capitol of Tennessee for a day. Government members on their way to Nashville had to stop for the night in Kingston and they held a meeting there so therefore I became the official capitol of Tennessee for that one night. I have always thought that was fascinating. I will have to post pictures of it when we go.
Yesterday I also informed Dd#1 piano teacher that she would not be coming back after July. It was a sad time as Dd has been taking piano lessons with her for almost 9 years. We decided that since she will be in 9th grade this year and her workload will be a little heavier that it was time to stop piano lessons. She will continue to play on her own though. I don’t think the teacher was to happy. Dd is happy with the choice. She has been working on several hymnals and is doing great. I think we made the right choice.
We will be starting school in about 2 weeks and I am so exceited. Even the girls are happy. Deep down I know they love it. I always amazes me when the remember something we read about in school. I remember one time a few years ago when Dd#2 was outside one day at my parents house and she said “Look mom, it’s a Japanese Honeysuckle.” I didn’t even remember reading about that one. It sure made me smile. Now if they can just remember things we discuss in math class.

Exciting times, eh?
I love scheduling but have learned that I need a system that flexes a lot more than Mrs. K’s system
I am too unstructured at times!
And I agree with your last comment 110% I get shivers when the darling kidlets draw some tidbit of wisdome from my efforts. I just
and thank the Lord that I’ve had the chance to be their mother!
Isn’t planning fun?
I just love to have a cup of coffee and sit down to plan!
Have fun!
I didn’t know we had an alternate capital, that is interesting.
Nine year of piano lessons is a long time. I’m sure it was a bit emotional. When I entered high school was about the time I stopped lessons as well, but I didn’t continue to play much after that. I think my Mom was mad at me for a long time about that.
I hope you enjoy your last 2 weeks off!
I’ve got to finish getting my supplies together so that I can do my planning the week when the family is gone
I’m really hoping for some great weather so that I can do it out on the deck in the sunshine w/ a tall glass of ice tea. Of course if the cottonwood trees would quite cottoning and the wind would go away I’d be out there doing more but my allergies are already acting up and I’m not going to make it worse.
PS. I’m also going to be taking a page out of Mrs. K’s book by using the folder method.
